Riding For Zambia?

Having qualified with the highest number of points in the region, young Amanda Scott, aged 14, will be jetting off to Osnabruck, Germany in June 2004 to represent Zambia at the FEI/PSI World Children’s Dressage Challenge Finals.

Amada competed for Zambia against Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, Swaziland and Zimbabwe to gain the highest overall score and earned the right to compete in the finals in Germany against such countries as Argentina, Israel, New Zealand, Jamaica, Russia, Greece and many others.  This amazing achievement is, to the best of our knowledge, a first for equestrian sport in Zambia.

Amanda has been riding since the age of three and entered her first proper competition aged six. She has been competing steadily ever since in various equestrian disciplines with considerable success. Since arriving in Zambia in early 2000, and with the help and support of her dedicated riding instructor, Amanda has made great strides in her riding career, being Young Rider Of The Year at the ACSZ Horse Of The Year Show in Lusaka and leading Child Rider at both the Lusaka Derby and the Merchants Derby in Kitwe in 2003.

Amanda’s dream is to become a top competitive rider in world competitions. She is a dedicated and serious rider spending every afternoon after school working her horses to attain a high standard of horsemanship. She sees this opportunity to represent Zambia internationally as a great honour and is determined to do her utmost to bring the winners cup back to Zambia.

Although most of the expenses of this trip are met by the FEI, the cost of the airfares and accommodation still have to be met by the competitor. Amanda needs sponsorship if she is to be able to take up this challenge.  We are appealing to the public to come forward to help Amanda ride for Zambia.  All offers of support will be gratefully received and acknowledged.  All enquiries should be made to Jayne Scott on 097 841-889 or by email
