Thank You
The Zambia Cancer Foundation-Leukaemia Fund wishes to inform all who
have most generously assisted our charity in the past year that the
Fund donated K31 million worth of life saving chemotherapy drugs to
the University Teaching Hospital on 7th July. These drugs
were purchased through the Leukaemia Fund’s fundraising events and
donations and we wish to thank everybody who contributed for their
caring support.
The recipients of these drugs include children who are suffering
from leukaemia and allied blood cancers who now have a better chance
of leading normal lives. A constant supply of chemotherapy drugs is
imperative as any interruption in the prescribed treatment protocol
drastically reduces the chance of survival for a patient. These
drugs are expensive and have to be procured outside Zambia. Cancer
patients from all of Zambia are sent for treatment to the UTH. but
due to a lack of resources it is difficult for the hospital to treat
sufferers without donor assistance.
In addition to providing chemotherapy drugs the Leukaemia Fund is
assisting the UTH. with improving facilities in the paediatric
haematological and oncology (cancer) unit. The unit requires
extensive renovation and urgent help is required to make the ward a
more comfortable and pleasant environment for the patients and
hard-working, dedicated staff.
