Mazabuka Mumblings

BACK TO THE SWEETEST SPOT in Zambia after a short break.  Great to be back, and interesting to see the changes that have taken place that one wouldn't notice on a day  to day basis.  Poles have been erected from ZANACO to the water  tanks (amongst other areas) for  the installation of street lights!  I spoke to Town Clerk, Ekan Chingangu about this new development and he said that he was hoping that the lights would be in place by the end of December - so perhaps a bit of "well lit"  revelling will take place over  the festive season.  Chingangu is also keen that before long Mazabuka will not only be the sweetest, but also the most beautiful town in Zambia, once it has been kitted out with shrubs, flower beds and trees in various designated "parkland" areas.  A donation of trees and shrubs was made by Zambia Sugar at the end of November, just in time for the rainy season!  If Maz. farmers or anyone else in  the vicinity would like to make a donation, they should contact Ekan Chingangu on 097 808-743 or 230-093.

FOOTBALL - Chairman of Mazabuka United Football team, Isaac Mwale is proud of his teams performance this year.  MUF are now third from the top in the 2nd Division and are hoping for a promotion to first division soon after winning most of their games this season. The team has a match almost every Sunday and home games are played at the old showgrounds.

GOLF-   Congrats to our lady golf champ, Moono Akasiwa, for being elected Vice President South of the ZLGU.  Moono has started planning  the huge ZLGU. North vs. South tournament that will be hosted by Mazabuka in 2005.  Sponsored Days have been held at Maz Golf Club on a regular basis over the past five weeks and our  thanks go to sponsors:  Coalmen's, Pyramid, Dana and Kifco for their generous sponsorship.  The course is in great shape with a lot less ant damage than in previous years thanks  to the irrigation scheme.  Players from other clubs are welcome  to pop down  to Maz for a weekend of golf.

NAMUSA LODGE - is the latest B and B on  the block in Maz.  Run by J. Sumbwa, Namusa has four bedrooms (one ensuite) DSTV, a bar and restaurant .  Continental breakfast is included in the price of the rooms which is K165,000 (the ensuite is slightly more expensive).  Contact them on 097 835-392 to book.

MUSIKILI SCHOOL fielded three of their children for the recently held international gala in Kenya.  Representing their school and Zambia were Nial Wheeler, Ryan Shiel and Jason Woodley and still on a high note,  Musikili's junior girls netball team were victors in the annual Private Schools Junior League Netball champs .

COMING UP AT MAZ CLUB:   The annual Christmas Dance is being held on the Last Saturday before Christmas - December 18. A New Years Eve dance is also being held this year and tickets are K75,000 a head.  Contact Chris Martin or Elaine Jones to book.
