Seven  Days Of Theatre

By Chama Nambeya

Zambia’s privately promoted theatre festival, organized by Yezi-Arts Promotions and Productions in partnership with Wam-Arts Promotions and ABET Arts Promoters, takes place at the Lusaka Playhouse from 24 to 30 April.

Five international groups from Malawi, Zimbabwe, Swaziland and South Africa, together with five local groups will perform ten different plays. About 110 artistes and practitioners are expected to participate in the seven-days in-residence event that combines performances, workshops and meetings focused on developing linkages between theatre groups.

The festival has received support from the Embassy of Finland and HIVOS Southern Africa. Other support have been given by Zambeef and the National Arts Council of Zambia.

The April National Theatre Festival has etched a place on the Zambian theatre calendar, and now provides an opportunity for showing both talent and developing theatre talent in the country.

Three categories of awards will be awarded to deserving artists, individuals and institutions who have continued to support the promotion and development of the arts. Two media awards will also be given.

Tickets for the shows will cost K30,000 and there will be two shows each day. They will be available after April 15 at Lusaka Playhouse and Yezi-Arts Offices at CUSA House (call Chamilesu Kapaipi, Coordinator on 097 825-716.
