Letter From Livingstone

Once again, unfortunately, the information from Livingstone and the Centenary Celebrations is a little scanty and certainly not enough for anyone planning to visit Livingstone to participate in any of them, to make any meaningful plans..

During May, aerial flights will be conducted over the town and the Falls for Livingstone’s residents. No dates can be set for this as it will depend on when the various operators are free.

Also on the calendar is the annual African Queen Ceremony. Livingstone Events Organisation are unable to tell me exactly when this is taking place or even what is taking place.

For the month of June, all of Zambia’s Mayors have been invited to Livingstone for a get-together (!) where they will, amongst other things, march up the main street in their full regalia, accompanied by a brass band.  The dates for this are not yet set but it will be between 21 and 26 June.  It will be followed by the official launch of the celebrations. No other information for June events is available at the time of going to press.

What happened regarding the celebrations for the centenary of the completion of the bridge?  I am told that something, although no one can tell me exactly what, is happening today (22 April). Unfortunately The Lowdown cannot wait and the printing presses are waiting.

And all the time, the train is pulling further and further out of the station!
