Musikili School - Almost the end of term!  In mid July the PTA organised a fund raising 100 Club evening which brought parents, teachers and members of the community together for a pleasant evening.  The 100 Club Draw will be an ongoing event and if anyone would like to buy tickets in the draw they should contact the PTA through the school.

Women's Empowerment Film To Be Made In Mazabuka!

A locally based graphics production company has been invited to enter a locally made women's empowerment film entitled "Tears to Blessings", in the Cape Town World Cinema Festival due to take place in mid 2006.  Southern Screen Productions which comes under the Institute of Graphic Communications, a Mazabuka based company (in collaboration with Vilole Images, Lusaka) has been awarded a grant by Sithenge/HIVOS Film and Television Market, a South African based company, to start production on  the film in the next few months. In charge of production is Nector Mbilima, a media designer with the Institute of Graphic Communications.

Chasing Tigers

After seeing Tiger Woods dominating the British Open at St. Andrews recently - it was a case of not being able to see the trees for the Wood -  it's no surprise to see talented young golfers around the world trying to emulate him. He has made the game extremely popular with young people since he started playing in the mid nineties.

Maz has produced some of its own gifted young golfers over the years, Simon Hobday being one,  and more recently, Rodney Mundia, club golf champ before he left for  Jackson State University in Mississippi in the U.S.  In July, Rodney  popped home for a visit to his parents and also, on behalf of the University, attempted to identify young Mazabuka players with potential to follow in his footsteps.  He was given a scholarship to JSU on the strength of his golfing prowess and his academic ability and points out that if the academics are not firmly in place, no matter how good the golfer is, he or she will not be considered for sponsorship.  The idea is to get a good balance between academics and golf.  Rodney, who graduated from Maz's  St. Edmonds Secondary school in 2000, is doing a Computer Engineering degree at JSU and is now in his final year.
