Restaurant Review : La Gondola

La Gondola restaurant at Arcades (formerly Michelangelo’s) serves some of the finest Italian food around. The extensive menu of pizzas, pastas, grills and deserts is a delight and sufficient to whet anyone’s appetite. The service is excellent and the staff are pleasant, well spoken, courteous and very competent.

We opted to sit inside the restraint in order to get a better feel of the place but the outdoor dining area looked very comfortable indeed.

Whilst waiting for our food we had a few moments to soak up the atmosphere, the Italian music in the background, the smell of traditional Italian dishes being prepared wafting through the dining area and the understated decor gave the impression of a well run establishment that enables you to enjoy their fine food without feeling under pressure to eat your meal and get the check.

Our ice cold drinks were delivered to our table swiftly and without bother so that we were able to watch our food being prepared through the hatch into the open plan kitchen.

Our food, by any standards was on the table exceptional time (mere minutes) and was as mouth watering as it seemed to be when we looked through the menu. For starters we ordered a dish of Mozzarella slices dressed with tomato, basil and olive oil and a basket of a variety of Italian bread with a side dish of diced olives. For our main course we opted for a traditional Con Pollo pizza (Mushroom, Chicken and Onion) and a creamy beef Cannelloni.

Both had been prepared and presented with care which always makes eating out more of an enjoyable experience.

The portions were more than generous and, as would be expected made the entire outing something of a treat.

The food was incredibly good, so good in fact we ate more than our fill and couldn’t manage another look at the mouth watering menu.

When we had finished our meal, the bill was delivered in good time and was very reasonable.

La Gondola is a must if you enjoy and appreciate wholesome Italian cuisine, prompt service and a relaxed and welcoming ambiance.
