A Feast of Films

Once again, Lusaka residents are being treated to a marathon on films which are being screened during the annual European Film Festival. Below is a synopsis of each of the film, together with details of when they will be screened.

European Delegation : Congo River

The film takes us from the mouth to the source of the Congo, the world’s largest river basin. We discover places that have seen DR Congo’s turbulent history. This journey to the heart of Africa, beyond the shadows of tragedy and war, is a hymn to life just like the untameable vegetation that enshrines the river's shores. Images from the banks tell of a people's joys and suffering, of the celebrations and tragedies which punctuate the lives of fishermen, merchants, travellers, military men, child soldiers, militias and raped women - an entire people in search of light and dignity.

Ireland : Into the West

Into the West is the story of a "travelling" family who have given up their traditional rural life of roaming, now stuggling in a deprived urban area of Dublin. Tito and Ossie, the sons of Papa Reilly, former “King of the Travellers”, escape reality, their father's indifference and alcoholism on an apparently magical horse named Tír na nÓg who mysteriously appeared one day at their grandfather’s caravan.  When a scrupulous horse dealer confiscates the horse from them, Tito and Ossie set about a rescue plan which sees them undertaking a magical and emotional horseback adventure across Ireland.

The film suitable for all ages, is a magical escape into the world of Irish mysticism & folklore in the setting of a modern-day fairy tale with a bit of western for good measure.
