Choma Chat

The Choma Polocrosse Tournament was held at the beginning of May and was probably the best ever.  Over 80 players and some very exciting games.  But where were all the Choma spectators?!   Conspicuous by their absence.

So.........this is advance notice - Please make a note in your diaries for August 25th, 26th and 27th when Choma is hosting the biggest event of it's history - the Zimbabwe/Zambia International Tournament, now known as "The Zim Zam".   It is the third annual event of its kind, first held in Lusaka in 2004.  It is held alternately in the two  countries and with Zambia's turn this year, Choma is honoured to be hosting it.   It is, of course an international tournament and our Choma players have to work hard to be selected for the National Team.  However, last year, four adults and two children from Choma Polox Club were selected which is a proud achievement for the smallest Club in the country.

So, brush up on your National Anthem, come see the two countries bring in their respective flags and get ready to watch some seriously exhilarating polocrosse. AND cheer loudly for Zambia.   There is some debate as to whether a cheer leading group should be formed.  If anyone out there is keen to hold auditions and do some training, then let's go for it!   Also will the horses stand for it?!

Wow, isn't the post office area just so nice now with the new road and not just there, but elsewhere in Choma.   And no busses, thank you to the Council.

The Choma Cricket Club are about to set forth on their first match of the season with Lusaka South. The first of many we hope, watch for the result in next issue (or not)!  If you feel you are an untapped talent or just want the exercise, contact Richard Duckett on 220107 for details on practice etc.

With the rains gone, tennis is now once again on the menu at the Sports Club.  Wednesdays is Club afternoon for tennis, squash, cricket and arm aerobics (sp) in the Bar.  The preceding weekend's fishing exploits are usually discussed then as well.

Talking about fishing don't forget Chibila Camp at Itezhi Tezhi for a weekend getaway, even better, a LONG weekend or, as some folks do, book the camp for a week and get a discount.  Bookings through Tony on 097 794-036.  As this is a Wildlife Members Only Camp make sure your subs are updated, also through Tony.

For those of you who feel the need to lose weight there is a "Way Less" group twice a week, Tuesday mornings at Caroline Green and Thursday afternoon at Fiona Marx.   There is advice on nutrition, fitness and exercise (combined with eating chocolate?)   For more details contact Caroline Green on 097 837-151.

Over and out!
