Munda Wanga Opens its Doors to Art

Now and again a visionary will come along and change our perception of how we look at things. Such luminaries open doors to places and bring forth new ideas.

It is these new ideas that refreshes life and gives it a new meaning. The old becomes new and it is this rejuvenation of ideas that makes the world go-round.

A new, old idea is being re-launched into the Botanical Gardens at Munda Wanga Environmental Park. An Art Exhibition will soon be part of these famous gardens. Kachere Art village and Studio will be running an exhibition there starting on the 27 January.

When Ralph Saunders envisioned Munda Wanga, he saw a lush green garden, with art and nature in a natural symbiosis. It is today that we are working to materialise these visions. Getting Kachere to set up their work in the tranquillity of the gardens now more than 50 years old, gives Munda Wanga an extra asset of admiration.

Munda Wanga has since its beginning in 1950 been an environmental education resource for Zambia. Over the years, teachers and community leaders have walked through its doors for a hands-on lesson in environmental conservation, management and education.

Well, the coming of Kachere is about to add a new dimension to Munda Wanga. Kachere Art village will be well placed at Munda Wanga because Kachere’s aspirations on the environment are based on its promotion and conservation.

Art with Kachere is one that does not negate nature, works on canvas, in wood and stone will depict nature and life in its various forms.

Like the Botanic Gardens, Kachere Art Village has also a special place for children and since Munda Wanga has a deliberate policy to woo kids, they will be very welcome.

Munda Wanga Environmental Park is open 7 days a week from 8 am to 5 pm (gate closes at 6pm), so there is plenty of time to visit the gallery and sculpture displays in the gardens and to take a feeding tour of the animal section. These tours  run on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at  2 pm.

“There can be no better place to place Kachere Art than in the therapeutic Botanic Gardens of Munda Wanga because in this natural environment, art will blossom to its fullest,” said marketing manager Fred Hengeveld.

Kachere Art Village and Studio at Munda Wanga will have a grand opening at 2 pm on the 27 January in the “Secret Garden”. The opening will coincide with a Wine and Cheese tasting. A good opportunity to taste different types of wine (Kazuma) and cheese (local suppliers).

The coming of an art village and studio to the Botanic Gardens is an inspirational concept. Such a vision of bringing the arts closer to nature, needs to be supported.
