Culinary Globetrotting
Starting on
Saturday 27 January Le Soleil is hosting a novel gastronomic event
for Lusaka residents; ‘The Le Soleil International Food Festival’.
On the last Saturday of each month, one of many international
communities in Lusaka will showcase their own particular traditional
cuisine prepared by members of their community. Each community also
has the space to enlarge upon this theme to include traditional
music, dance, fashion and art as they have extensive indoor and
outdoor facilities.
Each month Le
Soleil will extensively advertise the particular community that will
be hosting that months’ food festival. The first event is the Greek
community on Saturday 27 and, subject to confirmation, will be
followed by the French community in February Some African
communities have expressed interest as well and it looks like we can
all look forward to a veritable cornucopia of international cuisine
throughout the coming year.
It is also
anticipated that each festival will be a fund raising initiative for
a project chosen by the participating community. These fund raising
options could range from a percentage of ticket sales to raffles and
auctions.
The Le Soleil
management is acutely aware of the torrid state of the last
kilometre of road before the Le Soleil entrance and plans are afoot
to have this section of road graded before the first festival.
If any
community is interested in participating then the programme is as
follows: Le Soleil offers its extensive kitchen, crockery and
cutlery, restaurant and kitchen staff, cash bar, the restaurant
itself, the conference facility … pretty much the entire complex …
all for a percentage of each ticket sale. Each community determines
the price of tickets as that would be relative to the costs of
preparing the food. Le Soleil also undertakes to handle all
advertising and promotional costs. For those who are interested, the
person to speak to is John Sweatman who can be contacted on 097
781-222 or 097/095 802-533 or 01 291-801.
